A few people have mentioned the McKinsey survey report on "Building the Web 2.0 Enterprise: McKinsey Global Survey Results." The thing I found most interesting was the list of barriers to implementation.

Shawn Callahan provides a review of an article from the Journal of Knowledge Management: "Three-dozen knowledge sharing barriers." And another book to read, this time from Szulanski.

Jeffrey Phillips picked up on the WSJ article "Companies Struggle To Pass On Knowledge That Workers Acquire" and goes onto talk about some of the barriers for traditional KM, focusing on critical mass.

Kaye Vivian has written up a list of concerns that managers have voiced over many conversations in her organization: "Managers Look at the Risks of KM." It's a great (or scary) list of barriers and concerns that need to be addressed for any big change project.

Following my note about Joining Dots' article on "Why is KM so difficult," I tracked down an article of the same title by Julian Birkinshaw from the London Business School. He says, "The problem with knowledge management is that most companies struggle to make it work." And then he gives some suggestions on how to make it work.

Sharon Richardson of Joining Dots writes "Why is KM so difficult?" And she lists her top five reasons that all make sense to me.
