Just for smiles, I checked the US PTO trademark search. As of today, there are 17 trademarks with the term "iphone" in the title. And check out this press release for InfoGear Technology's IPhone from 1996, National Semiconductor Using Technology From Sun Microsystems For Internet Products. Below the fold are results, massaged a bit, from the US PTO.
Just to be clear: I am not particularly interested in the legal wranglings. I was just curious and had some extra time on my hands.
